I’ve spent the last week, since Blissdom Canada came to a close, reading several dozen blogs recording their author’s take on such a conference and what they’ve discovered either about themselves, their blog or the “industry” in general.
One of the reoccurring themes has been one of affirmation that they {as bloggers} like the direction they’re going in, like what they’re writing about and don’t plan on changing that.
“… this is my blog and I get to do what I want with it. I get to make the rules. and I think I am doing okay.” ~ Mom vs The Boys
That is an awesome discovery!
Others have discovered that “unlearning” is needed in order to move forward. We were challenged to change what we thought we “knew”…
“… By the time she {Catherine Connors} was done I was reminded to question what I know, and to challenge my thinking.” ~ Common Cents Mom
Those are awesome discoveries!
Change is good but change is hard. Unfortunately, actual movement to follow through on what we want to do or change can be thwarted thanks to a four letter word…. F.E.A.R.
Trust me, I am struggling with some fear-induced issues of my own right now. I’m smack-dab in the middle of that proverbial fork in the road! I need to make some big decisions {business based} that are making my knees knock together. I get it. I do.
Change means that you’re not stagnate… it means you’re going places! Don’t let fear be the cement shoes to your goals!
“There is no standing still. You’re either going forward or backwards. There is no in between.”
“The Art Of Defining Yourself & Your Creative Work” Blissdom Canada 2011 panelists; Julie Cole {Mabel’s Labels}, Dee Brun {Cocktail Deeva}, Gail Vaz-Oxlade {Debt Free Forever, Till Debit Do Us Part, Kimberley Seldon {Dabble Magazine}, & Patty Sullivan {Kids’ CBC} spoke to me the loudest over the weekend and not because they were extremely candid!
They are all women whom I admire. Women who have built their “brands” and stuck to their guns about not becoming something they’re not. When I grow up… I want to be just like me but a stronger version just like them!
Thank you Blissdom Canada for helping us all grow!
These too are good words. 😉
Best of Luck in whichever you decide to do. You'll rock it I am sure!
definitely a lot to figure out!
"When I grow up… I want to be just like me but a stronger version just like them"
amen sista to you too! love it and feel the same way!
This is a FABULOUS post…I still dont know what I want to be when I grow up…But I am sure enjoying the ride trying to find out…
Thank You for the kind words, so enjoyed being a part of such a great panel and having the gift…of speaking to and with so many amazing women…
I think your an Amazing woman…and I am blessed to know you…
Cheers
I loved that session as well. They all had different paths to end up where they are…but they all knew who they are and what they want.
Love that!
I know that deep inside you do know…it just needs to find it's path to the surface! And boy are you going to rock when that happens (cuz you already are pretty awesome already!)
Great post Shannon. Yes, fear holds us back from so many things and from change. One of the things I learned – we need to embrace the change so we can grow! 🙂
Fantastic post, you are amazing and I know you will rock whatever you choose!
I feel so fortunate to have met you and experienced your energy!!
Go get em girl…Oh the places you will go….

This is a great post – and makes me even more sad that I couldn't make Blissdom Canada this year. That being said, this is a great message and you're right… the answer to the question "What would I do if I didn't have fear" could lead to a better, stronger version of myself. Thanks for reminding me of that!
