Welcome to the Wedding Dress Blog Tour!
This idea was spawned from a simple question I asked on my Facebook page the other day – I’m so happy I decided to try to do a blog tour, I’ve never started one of these before!! I hope you enjoy hopping around and checking out each other’s dresses and stories!
This is my wedding dress. I wore it May 11, 1996 when my hubby and I got hitched on the top of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, British Columbia. I actually got to wear it twice! When we returned to Ontario after our wonderful honeymoon in Hawaii… our church had a reception for us since many of them couldn’t fly to BC to see us wed.
**EDIT: I forgot to mention… I picked it up BEFORE my hubby asked me to marry him! We had pretty much just met, in fact I bought it about 10 days or so after our first official real date! Our wedding day was our 40th day in each others presence. I being from BC and he Ontario, we met one Sunday towards the end of the summer of 1995 and the rest, as they say, is history!**
I tried to squeeze into it not too long ago… needless to say… I couldn’t get the zipper up. It seems my rib cage never went down after having child #4… Yeah… my rib cage gained weight! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!!
Why did I keep it? I guess in my new-bride naivety I thought that maybe my daughter, when and if I had a daughter, would like to have the option to wear it or not. I have fond memories of my younger sister and I trying on my mom’s wedding dress (the one to her first husband, which wasn’t my dad! Gasp! She kept it!! I’m pretty sure we broke it….).
Why didn’t I sell it? In 1996, the only options I knew of were used, dingy consignment stores where it probably wouldn’t get very much exposure and the chances of it actually selling were pretty slim. I’m not an overly sentimental person, the actual dress doesn’t hold the memories, my heart does.
If it was 2006 instead of 1996…. it would have been a different story with the marvels of the internet! I saw, on CBS, The Early Show a segment on “Weddings on a Budget”, they showcased a cool business which got it’s start in Toronto, Canada and is available in the US too, where they buy and sell pre-owned wedding dresses. If I had known I could have bought a Vera Wang designer wedding gown for a fraction of the cost… Umm… HELLO!!!!
I’ve shown you mine… now you show me yours!
Upload your pictures and let me know if you’ve kept your dress or sold it and why (either way… tell me why). Let me know when and where it was worn and if you really want to gab about it, tell your favourite memory or funniest/worst thing that happened to you that day. Then answer the question (if you still have your dress) Would you sell it?
When you’ve written up your Wedding Dress Blog Tour post, link it up so that I can come and check it out! Hopefully more people join in so it’s not just me talking to myself… 🙂
I’m using Mr Linky’s widget for Tell me Thursday. (It’s the closest I could find that was free, I’m cheap you know!)
I'll join in so it's not just you talking about your dress. 😉
Thanks Cheri! I appreciate you looking out for me!!
p.s. I cried the entire time your dad walked/sang you down the aisle!
I kinda got wordy…. LOL! It's a longer post than I intended, but I got such a great deal on my dress!!!!
Thanks for the fun!
Oh I love that you shared that!! The thought crossed my mind but to be honest… I can't remember what I paid! It was on the sample rack and I know it was cheaper than my headpiece and veil!
Thanks Sweet Mummy for participating!!
Whoo hoo…look…more people came to play. This was a great idea to do. I hope you come up with more ideas…it helps me to write a post.
…and I didn't know you cried. 🙂
It made me smile to know.
Mine is a long post too… and I included a fabulous picture of me wearing my dress today. Delightful. 🙂
Thanks Tara!! I still think you're is in style!! It so doesn't look like it's ……. old! 🙂 lol <3
Mine was NOT a long post…I have one crying toddler and one jumping on his bed so my time was limited but…it was funny and weird to pull it out again! Thanks for the memories 🙂
Thanks Tanya for squeezing it in. I am thankful that today… all the kids are in school! Although I just caught the puppy eating the kid's piano lessons CD!
GGGRRRRRR!!!
I joined in! Thanks for doing this, it was fun! 🙂
Ok I joined in, so fun 🙂

Thanks for letting me join! I love remembering my wedding day. 🙂
What a fabulous and FUN idea! I found you through Clever Mommy. And this was a really fun thing for me to see and read about all these ladies dresses. I only wish i could join. BUT, no pics on here of my wedding dress. Besides, I weighed about 100 lbs. MORE on my wedding than I do now, so I don't particularly love the pics, though I DID love the dress.
so fun! I loved looking at all the fun posts, and posting about mine! Thanks for the fun tour!
How fun! I found you through Clever Mommy. I'm off to write a post of my own…
WOW! This is soooo cool!! I took the kids swimming for the afternoon and I come home to a whack of wonderful dresses to check out!!
I hope you've visited each other's blog and left a little link love!! 🙂

So fun!! Thanks for posting!

Oh this is FUN!!! My friend Rachel posted this and when I was looking at hers I thought gosh I'm going to play too what a wonderful idea! You know you're not the only one with the expanding ribcage! One of the guys I work with his wife had the same thing happen! She had 4 children too! thanks for hosting!
ooops! Lets hope there wasn't a limit to the number of pictures we were supposed to upload. 😀
hahah Becks! no there wasn't a limit!! I can't wait to check out your pictures. 🙂
Very cool idea! Thanks for letting us all participate! : )
I had my 6yr anniversary in February and did a post about me trying on my dress so I've linked to that 🙂
I don't think I would ever sell mine. Besides, I paid under $200 for it because I bought it at a consignment store 🙂 No, it wasn't used, the store had recently purchased a bunch of samples from a wedding store that just went out of business. Score!
Great tour, thanks for doing it!
Great idea for a blog tour! Thanks!
What a fun idea! I added mine. 🙂
thank you for sharing. The wedding dress I wore during my wedding had a 5-yard train but I got a great deal on my dress. Love the design actually. I hope I could wear it again *wink*
Very Interesting!
Thank You!
Thansk for sharing your wedding dress story with us. It was interesting as your dress is lovely.
