I read this Scripture last night at church prayer. It’s one we read often and sometimes it is relegated to Sunday school lessons or something we say so often we forget what it means.

I like to dissect Scripture, finding the original Greek or Hebrew and chewing on it until it goes from my head to my heart. That’s where the revelation is.

Psalm 23:
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

#1 – God takes care of me in all ways. There is nothing; health, finances, friendships that I will lack. He guides me, comforts me, and finds me when I’m lost.

#2 & 3 – The Message puts it this way; True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. He refreshes and restores my will, my emotions, and my mind.

#4 – WALK THROUGH – keep on going! Don’t be stopped by the shadows. Don’t set up camp in the valley. Don’t be afraid during this journey because He walks by your side at all times. His rod protects and His staff guides me – together they are a comfort to me. I am never alone!

#5 – We feast at His table – prepared by Him and right in front of our enemies eyes, they can see God’s provision. My cup brims over with blessing.

#6 – Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.
