Nine of us descended on the Riviera Maya last November for a week of celebrations.  My parents brought their 4
daughters & 3 of their spouses to Mexico for their 42nd Anniversary.

We stayed at Hacienda Tres Rios, an all-inclusive Eco Resort located about an hour from Cancun, near Playa del Carmen.

Dave and I arrived on October 31st, Halloween Night, a few days before the rest of my family. Watching the staff
throw their all into the festivities surrounding Día de Muertos was very enjoyable. They were fantastic at including the guests, especially the
children.

This Eco Resort is nestled in a 326-acre nature park, just under half
of which is a nature reserve, protected from human impact and building
development.

There are plenty of things to do on site, from Segway Tours to Sailing to Beach Volleyball.

My favourite beach activity was lounging on the beach beds while reading a book and drinking a mango mojito!

It rained a fair bit when we were there, (our first hotel flooded our first night there but that’s another story for another time) but for the few good weather days we had, we kayaked down the river, through the mangroves.

The freshwater river was so crystal clear, you could see every single water creature, root and rock, right down to the bottom. It was absolutely gorgeous in there!

We explored the tropical rainforests, home to 120 plant species and 90 species of animals, swam in the river and sailed on the sea. We even took a couple afternoons to explore the nursery and grounds on a Segway. 

Due to the three freshwater rivers {Tres Rios} spilling into the sea, the beach area is fairly muddled. I didn’t swim directly in front of the hotel but that’s OK, because the pools were amazing.

Every day was an adventure at this beautiful Eco Resort in the Mayan Riviera!

The staff made us feel at home, especially Gregorio, pictured above. The grounds & hotel are beautiful and well cared for. The groundskeeper worked very hard to keep the sand clean, he raked up and down the beach for hours each day. Make sure you ask for a room on one of the top floors for a better view of the Mexican Caribbean Sea!

Lunch and supper were spent at the poolside Grille (I highly recommend their Burgers) or their Japanese restaurant (order the Tempura Salmon). One lobster dinner at the Grille is included with your stay, make sure you take them up on it, it was delish! The best place to get a cappuccino was the Paris Cafe just off the main lobby. Unfortunately the Italian restaurant on site was a disappointment; small portions, over-cooked and bland and after spending 10 days here, the breakfast buffet got a little repetitive. If you go, you should make a point to attend their Mexican Fiesta evening, the entertainment is a bit cruise-shipy but the authentic Mexican food was amazing.

Overall, this was the perfect place for our family to celebrate such a
joyous occasion!
